Obere Lußhardt Landscape Protection Area

Obere Lußhardt is a protected landscape area in the northern part of the Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It covers roughly 5.9 square kilometers across the municipalities of Bruchsal, Waghäusel, Hambrücken, and Ubstadt-Weiher on the Hardt plain, a low plateau between the Rhine and the Kraichgau. The landscape is dominated by extensive forest, which gives the protected area its character and its name, with the word "Lußhardt" referring historically to the woodland of this part of the Rhine lowlands. Open land exists only as narrow strips of grassland along the Wagbach and the Duttlacher Graben streams, including the corridor of meadows known as the Gemswiesen. These contrasting elements, a large forested block next to linear grassland corridors along small watercourses, define the visual and ecological structure of the protected area. The site has been protected since August 1973 and overlaps partly with a Natura 2000 habitat site. It belongs to a wider network of protected landscapes in the Karlsruhe district and is valued primarily for its forest biotopes and for the small, ecologically significant meadow and stream corridors that interrupt the woodland.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
