Öde im Hartberg

Öde im Hartberg is a small protected landscape on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It lies just north of the Bad Urach district of Seeburg, occupying a south-facing slope of the Hartberg at the mouth of the Fischburgtal valley. The reserve covers roughly ten hectares of traditional juniper heathland, parts of which are gradually returning to scrub and young woodland through natural succession. Two prominent rock outcrops, the Hartbergfels and the Seeburger Nägelesfels, rise above the heath and give the area a distinctive geological character. Öde im Hartberg is nested within a broader network of protected areas on the Middle Swabian Alb. It sits inside the Uracher Talspinne Natura 2000 site, the Mittlere Schwäbische Alb bird protection area, and the care zone of the Schwäbische Alb UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, linking a modest local designation to significant regional and European-level conservation frameworks.
