Oelingrather und Grunder Bachtal Nature Reserve

Oelingrather und Grunder Bachtal is a small nature reserve in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, situated northwest of Remscheid and between the larger cities of Solingen and Wuppertal. Designated in 2003 and administered by the city of Remscheid, the reserve protects two narrow stream valleys: the Oelingrather Bach south of the village of Oelingrath, and the Grunder Bach south of the village of Grund, both separated geographically by the settlement of Grund itself. The reserve is defined by its near-natural stream courses, which include small source areas, mosses typical of flowing water, and typical accompanying vegetation such as butterbur stands along the stony stream bed. Above the meandering brooks lie mostly agricultural grassland, while the steeper slopes support mixed deciduous forests of beech, oak, and birch. The mosaic of wet meadow, dry meadow, alder-lined banks, scattered shrubs, old-growth trees, and small standing waters gives this site its landscape character. Although compact, the area is considered representative of the typical Kerbtal (narrow V-shaped valley) landscape of the Bergisches Land. Its habitat diversity, presence of protected species, and good conservation status give it regional significance as a stepping-stone within a wider network of near-natural stream valleys. It is also used locally for nearby nature recreation.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
