Elbląg Upland Landscape Park

Elbląg Upland Landscape Park is a protected landscape area in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northern Poland, covering the most distinctive fragments of the Elbląg Upland (Wysoczyzna Elbląska) and a portion of the adjacent Staropruskie Coast. Although located in the far north of the country, the park has a surprising mountain-like character, expressed through hilly terrain, beech-dominated forests and plant species typically associated with upland and montane regions of Poland. The park lies near the city of Elbląg and extends across several neighboring communes, including the rural commune of Elbląg, Tolkmicko, Milejewo, and Frombork, placing it within easy reach of the Vistula Lagoon coast and historic sites such as Frombork. Its combination of inland upland scenery, coastal proximity and cultural landmarks like the baroque palace at Kadyny makes it an unusually varied protected area for this part of the country. Created in 1985 by a resolution of the provincial council in Elbląg, the park protects beech forest communities, mountain-flora indicators such as the ostrich fern and martagon lily, and a varied fauna that includes red deer, the forest dormouse, white-tailed eagles, common cranes, and lesser spotted eagles. It also encompasses five nature reserves that safeguard the most ecologically valuable fragments of the upland.
