Pillebachtal, Dernkamp und Gallberg Nature Reserve

Pillebachtal, Dernkamp und Gallberg is a designated nature reserve in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, occupying roughly 75 hectares on the territory of the city of Dusseldorf. The protected area consists of two separate sections that together extend northeast of the city center and north of the Gerresheim district, straddling the right-of-way of the B 7 federal road. The reserve is shaped by the small Pillebach stream, a tributary of the Dussel, and by a series of hills and valleys that support a compact patchwork of habitats. Heavily structured beech forests with old growth trees share the landscape with shaded and open spring-fed meadows, alder and ash gallery woodlands, regenerating sections of the stream itself, reed beds, and wet meadows. The geology, with elevation ranging roughly from 66 to 110 meters, gives rise to a diverse groundwater-influenced environment that supports amphibians, reptiles, mollusks, and rare plant life alongside a rich bird community. The reserve's significance lies in the unusually high concentration of habitat types found in a small, urban-adjacent setting. Designation aims to preserve and develop a near-natural, structurally rich forest, meadow, water, and spring complex with strong relevance for species protection, including several cavity-nesting birds, waterbirds tied to reed habitat, and a local population of yellowhammer.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
