Reichshoffen Regional Nature Reserve

The Reichshoffen Regional Nature Reserve is a small protected wetland area in the Bas-Rhin department of Alsace, in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. It lies within the broader Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord, about two kilometers northeast of the town of Reichshoffen, and covers roughly 24 hectares at an altitude of around 190 meters. The reserve centers on a man-made pond known as the plan d'eau de Wolfartshoffen, surrounded by a mosaic of wet habitats including reedbeds, sedge beds, willow thickets, and alder groves. Despite its small size, the site harbors a rich and varied avifauna, with around 130 bird species recorded, roughly a third of which breed on or near the water. Originally established in 1992 as a voluntary nature reserve and reclassified in 2014 as a regional nature reserve, the area provides a compact example of how a small artificial water body, created for flood control, can evolve into a meaningful refuge for wetland wildlife and a valued local site for nature-based recreation.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
