Ryšovy

Ryšovy is a small protected natural monument in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, situated on a wooded hill named Ryšová just south of the village of Droužetice and a short distance north of the town of Strakonice. The site covers about 35 hectares on terrain rising between roughly 445 and 527 meters above sea level and was declared a protected area in 1990 by the former District National Committee of Strakonice. The protected area is essentially a forest reserve, valued for its exceptionally rich herb layer influenced by the underlying Strakonice limestone substrates. This unusual combination of bedrock and woodland has allowed many rare, protected, and thermophilous plant species to persist here, including multiple wild orchid species that are otherwise uncommon in the wider Czech landscape. Although compact, the site carries considerable botanical significance and is managed by the Czech Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection. It is a useful illustration of how even small hills in central Bohemia can support a surprisingly diverse flora when calcareous soils, traditional woodland management, and suitable exposure combine.
