About Saltbæk Vig

Saltbæk Vig occupies a distinctive position among Danish lakes. Although classified as a lake by national records, the water body is in fact a brackish coastal lagoon on the northwestern edge of Zealand, northeast of Kalundborg. With a surface area of roughly 16.1 square kilometers and a mean depth of only 1.8 meters, it is a shallow, low-lying basin whose surface sits around 1.2 meters below mean sea level. The lagoon has no significant freshwater inflow and exchanges water with the Sejerø Bugt, an embayment of the Kattegat.
