Scabby Range Nature Reserve

Scabby Range Nature Reserve is a small but ecologically significant protected area in southeastern New South Wales, Australia, lying against the southwestern edge of the Australian Capital Territory. Covering roughly 48 square kilometres, the reserve sits about 8 kilometres northeast of the rural locality of Yaouk and abuts Namadgi National Park and the Bimberi Wilderness across the border. The reserve protects a rugged section of the Murrumbidgee granite batholith and adjacent Yaouk leucogranites and Ordovician metasediments, forming an elevated and deeply dissected eastern continuation of the Kosciusko Uplands. Its terrain rises to around 1,800 metres above the cleared Yaouk/Cabramurra pastoral plain, with cold, wet conditions supporting subalpine communities, granite tors, snowgrass herbfields, and extensive montane eucalypt forest. Recognised for its strong wilderness value and biological richness, the reserve is included within the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves and was added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2008. It complements the larger Namadgi and Bimberi reserves to its north and east, providing a connected high-country refuge for wildlife and a sample of high-altitude Australian landscapes.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
