Scheidelberger Woog

The Scheidelberger Woog is a nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the Kaiserslautern district of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Designated in 1987, it spans roughly 232 hectares across parts of the municipalities of Hütschenhausen and Bruchmühlbach-Miesau. The protected area lies within the broader West Palatinate moor lowland and was created to conserve one of the region's characteristic wet, peat-influenced landscapes. The reserve's defining feature is a still water body, or "Woog," through which the Glan and the Schwarzbach rivers flow. Surrounding this water are peat cuttings, wet and moist meadows, reed beds, sedge marshes, brooks, ditches, ponds, and patches of alder and birch woodland. The site is valued for its mosaic of moist habitats and the rare plant and animal communities they sustain. Together with neighbouring protected areas such as the Landstuhler Bruch and the Östliche Pfälzer Moorniederung, the Scheidelberger Woog forms part of an important network of conservation areas preserving the lowland moors of the western Palatinate. Its quiet rural setting near Hütschenhausen makes it primarily a conservation-focused landscape rather than a high-profile public attraction.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
