Śnieżnicki Landscape Park

Śnieżnicki Landscape Park is a protected landscape area in south-western Poland, set within the Eastern Sudetes of Lower Silesia. It spans roughly 288 square kilometres across two neighbouring mountain groups: the Masyw Śnieżnika massif, anchored by the 1,425-metre peak of Śnieżnik, and the Góry Złote range with its inland Góry Bialskie sub-range. The park was established in 1981 to safeguard a stretch of the historic Sudeckie primeval forest, a striking mosaic of spruce forests with beech, larch, elm and hornbeam, and to protect the deeply varied relief of high-mountain basins, older mountain landscapes and old river valleys. Within its boundaries lie five nature reserves, Poland's famous Bear Cave, alpine-style vegetation belts, and a rich Sudeten fauna that once drew scientists to a pre-war biological station at Międzygórze.
