Sønder Feldborg Plantage

Sønder Feldborg Plantage is a Danish Natura 2000 protected area located in the central part of Jutland, just north of Herning and between the towns of Karup and Holstebro. It sits within the broader Sønder Feldborg plantation, occupying the northern end of that larger forested landscape. The site covers 120 hectares and combines conifer plantation with open landscape patches, creating a varied mosaic of habitats typical of the Central Jutland heath and bog region. Much of the protected area represents the surviving fragments of the historical Hammermose, a once much larger mire system that was partly drained and converted to agriculture or plantation forestry. The associated Hømose lies largely outside the Natura 2000 boundary but remains directly connected to it. The site is designated to conserve the remaining hanging-bog communities, the mosaic of wet and dry heath, and small lakes that together reflect the ecological character of this part of western Denmark. Ecologically, the area is notable for its combination of rare Danish habitat types, including Lobelia lakes, dystrophic brown-water lakes, watercourses, wet heath, dry heath, periodically wet meadows, and hanging bog. These habitats form a connected network that supports specialized plant communities and provides potential breeding conditions for wet-meadow bird species.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
