The protected area is most notable for its well-preserved glacial landforms from the late Pleistocene, including ice-marginal positions of the middle and upper Tettnang stages and striking dead-ice hollows (Toteislöcher) carved into the moraine landscape. The terrain rises from around 430 meters to nearly 550 meters above sea level, creating a varied mosaic of ridges, slopes, and depressions that reflects the retreat of the Würm glaciation.
