Voyageurs National Park
Voyageurs National Park is a national park in northern Minnesota established in 1975, making it Minnesota's only national park. The park is named after the voyageurs, French-Canadian fur traders who were the first European settlers to frequently travel through this area during the height of the North American fur trade. Located near the city of International Falls, the park encompasses over 218,000 acres of boreal wilderness characterized by a remarkable network of lakes, islands, and peninsulas. The park's defining feature is its outstanding water resources, with four major lakes totaling hundreds of miles of shoreline. The Kabetogama Peninsula, which makes up the majority of the park's land area, is accessible only by boat, creating a unique wilderness experience where visitors must travel by water to explore the interior.
