Wendlingen am Neckar Landscape Protection Area

Wendlingen am Neckar is a designated landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the district of Esslingen in Baden-Württemberg, southern Germany. Covering roughly 227 hectares across six separate parcels, it lies to the north and east of the urban area of Wendlingen am Neckar and falls within the natural regions of the Mittleres Albvorland and the Filder plateau. The protection area was established by ordinance of the Landratsamt Esslingen on 25 November 1992, replacing earlier, related landscape protection measures dating back to 1942. Its purpose is to preserve the traditional countryside around Wendlingen, an area otherwise strongly shaped by settlement and intensive agriculture. Its landscapes include species-rich meadows, traditional orchard meadows (Streuobstwiesen), hedgerows, small woodland patches along fields and streams, and the streams themselves. Although modest in size, the protected area plays an important ecological role at the local scale. It safeguards habitat networks and landscape corridors that support numerous, partly threatened species of plants and animals, helps maintain the ecological balance of the town, and preserves a green separation between the Wendlingen and Bodelshofen districts. At the same time, it offers nearby residents a nearby, attractive area for nature-based recreation.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
