Wolfsschlucht

The Wolfsschlucht is a small landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located west of the Wittlingen district of Bad Urach in the Reutlingen district. At only 1.4 hectares, it occupies a brief but dramatic section of the Wittlinger Bach valley on the Swabian Alb, a region known for its karst and limestone geology. The protected area preserves a steep, gorge-like valley cut deeply into the Upper Massenkalk (Upper Jurassic limestone) and covered with block and ravine forest interspersed with exposed rock faces. Though modest in size, the Wolfsschlucht is part of a layered network of conservation designations. It lies within the FFH (Habitats Directive) site of the Uracher Talspinne, the bird protection area of the Mittlere Schwäbische Alb, and the care zone of the Schwäbische Alb UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Together these overlapping statuses highlight the area's ecological and geological value well beyond what its compact footprint might suggest.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
