Oman occupies the southeastern Arabian Peninsula in West Asia. It shares land borders with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Yemen. The country has coastal access to the Arabian Sea to the southeast and the Gulf of Oman to the northeast. The Hajar Mountains run through the northern region, while the interior consists of desert plains and rocky plateaus. The Musandam Peninsula is an exclave separated from the rest of Oman by UAE territory.
Oman's terrain features the Hajar Mountains in the north, which rise to over 3,000 metres and contain unique biodiversity. The interior features desert ecosystems with gravel plains and dune fields. Coastal areas include mangroves and coral reefs along the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. The country has several nature reserves protecting wildlife including the Arabian tahr, leopards, and various bird species.
Oman has a hot desert climate with very limited rainfall. Summers are extremely hot, especially in the interior where temperatures regularly exceed 40°C. Coastal areas are more humid due to sea influence. Winter months from November to March offer milder temperatures, particularly in the mountains.
