Cornelysmillen-Schucklai Nature Reserve

Cornelysmillen-Schucklai is a Luxembourgish nature reserve situated on the high plateau between Troisvierges (Ëlwen), Kiischpelt (Kierchen) and Wilwerdang, close to the Cornelysmillen locality within the municipality of Wiltz. Designated as a protected zone of national interest in March 2023, the reserve covers roughly 190 hectares around the Wolz, Kléngelbaach and Weierbaach streams, and is formally recognised under both the EU Habitats Directive and the EU Birds Directive. The defining character of the reserve is its wetland landscape of wet meadows, marshes, fens, ponds and old fish basins, set against a mosaic of farmland, planted spruce stands and quiet deciduous woodland. It is widely regarded as one of the last strongholds for lowland wetland species on the Luxembourg plateau, providing essential feeding and breeding habitat for threatened birds and supporting a community of rare moisture-loving plants. The reserve's significance has both a national and a transnational dimension. Luxembourg's breeding population of the black stork, an emblematic and highly sensitive species, depends heavily on sites like this, and a small adjacent parcel across the Belgian border has also been classified as a natural reserve. Wetland restoration, traditional grazing by hardy sheep and habitat management by national conservation organisations all play a central role in preserving the site's ecological integrity.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
