Hogwash Bend Conservation Park

Hogwash Bend Conservation Park is a small protected area in South Australia's Riverland region, situated along the Murray River near the town of Cadell, roughly 148 kilometres north-east of Adelaide. The park occupies land on both sides of the river, with parcels in the localities of Cadell to the south and Taylorville to the north, and covers about four square kilometres of riverfront woodland and surrounding habitat. The reserve was created specifically to secure breeding habitat for the eastern subspecies of the Regent Parrot, a bird listed as vulnerable under Australia's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. In addition to the parrot colonies, the park protects mature river red gum stands, mallee woodland feeding areas, and habitat for several other threatened native species. Although compact in size and modest in profile, Hogwash Bend plays a targeted conservation role within the broader Riverland landscape, linking nesting grounds along the Murray River with adjacent feeding habitat in the surrounding mallee. Its establishment reflects an effort to safeguard a small but ecologically significant piece of the Murray River corridor for vulnerable native wildlife.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
