Rač Nature Reserve

Rač is a small nature reserve in the Ústí nad Labem District of the Ústecký Region in the Czech Republic, situated on the southern slope of the trachyte hill Hradiště u Habří. Geomorphologically, the hill belongs to the České středohoří range, a region shaped by Tertiary volcanism that produces distinctive volcanic landforms in northern Bohemia. The reserve protects warm-loving biological communities on rocky slopes and documents ecological succession on former agricultural plots. The protected area was established on 9 July 1953 by decree of the Ministry of Education and Enlightenment, making it one of the earlier small-scale nature reserves in the region. With an area of around 15 hectares, Rač is a compact, focused site rather than a large landscape-level park. Its significance lies in the combination of unusual volcanic geology, exposed rocky habitats, and a species-rich thermophilic community that includes both rare plants and a remarkable diversity of insects. Administratively, the reserve falls within the cadastral area of the former village of Lochočice and is administered by the Regional Authority of the Ústecký Region. It is classified at the international level as an IUCN Category IV protected area, recognizing its role in safeguarding the habitat of particular species. For visitors interested in Bohemian natural history, Rač offers a compact example of how volcanic geology and microclimate together create refuges for steppe-like flora and fauna in central Europe.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
