Małecz Nature Reserve

Małecz Nature Reserve is a small floristic protected area in central Poland, situated in the Łódzkie Voivodeship within the Gmina Lubochnia and Powiat Tomaszowski. Established in 1987, the reserve lies in the Równina Piotrkowska mesoregion and is administered on the grounds of the Spała Forest District. Its purpose is to preserve a unique stand of yellow rhododendron (Rhododendron flavum), a rare Pontic-origin shrub, together with representative examples of mixed and moist coniferous forest communities. The reserve spans roughly 9.15 hectares, split between strict protection (around 2.09 hectares) and active protection management (around 6.84 hectares) according to the management plan adopted in 2007. Despite its modest size, Małecz is recognized as one of the most interesting botanical sites in the region, combining old-growth pine and oak stands with a population of a relict shrub that arrived in Poland through early twentieth-century planting and has since established itself naturally. The site illustrates how small Polish nature reserves can carry significant ecological and biogeographical value by safeguarding plant species whose natural range lies far to the southeast, on the northern shores of the Black Sea. Małecz is therefore both a local conservation success and a small but meaningful element of Poland's broader network of floristic reserves.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
