Selangor State Park

Selangor State Park is a vast protected forest in the Gombak District of Selangor, Malaysia, forming one of the largest contiguous blocks of tropical rainforest remaining in Peninsular Malaysia. Designated as a state park in 2007 under the National Forestry Act Enactment 2005 of Selangor, it encompasses more than 108,000 hectares of largely highland terrain and serves as the principal water catchment for the entire Klang Valley region, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. The park functions less as a single enclosed reserve and more as an umbrella over interconnected forest complexes, river basins, and steep uplands that together regulate water, climate, and biodiversity across the most densely populated corridor of Malaysia. It supports extensive biodiversity, including more than a hundred mammal species, hundreds of bird species, and a substantial share of the vascular plants documented for Selangor. Its defining features include the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge, one of the longest quartz outcrops of its kind in the world, as well as the upper catchments of major rivers such as the Sungai Selangor, Sungai Klang, Sungai Langat, and Sungai Bernam. Beyond its ecological importance, the park is also a center for ecotourism, research, and environmental education, anchored by institutions such as the University of Malaya Field Studies Centre and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
