Skånsø og Tranemose

Skånsø og Tranemose is a compact Danish Natura 2000 habitat area in the western part of Central Jutland, designated to protect a cluster of rare open habitats rather than a single dramatic landscape. The site covers roughly 84 hectares near the town of Vinderup and combines two sharply different ecological units: the clear-water Lobelia lake Skånsø in the south, and the degraded raised bog and heath complex of Tranemose in the north. The protected area is typical of Denmark's western Jutland Natura 2000 network, blending lakes surrounded by plantation forest and heath with peatland shaped by centuries of turf cutting. Skånsø was formed in a glacial kettle hole and still supports the kind of clean, nutrient-poor water in which Lobelia and other specialist aquatic species can thrive, while Tranemose illustrates how former raised bogs have, in many places, been transformed into brown, peat-stained lakes through historical peat extraction. Beyond its ecological value, the area matters because it sits in a wider landscape near the larger Flyndersø nature complex and the Limfjord catchment. This regional setting gives Skånsø og Tranemose a role as one of several stepping stones of open habitat in an otherwise plantation-dominated part of Jutland.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
