Stawy Kiszkowskie

Stawy Kiszkowskie is a Natura 2000 Special Area of Conservation in west-central Poland, lying within the Gnieźnieńskie Lakeland of the Wielkopolskie voivodeship. Covering roughly 477 hectares near the village of Kiszkowo, the site protects a fragment of the Mała Wełna river valley together with two complexes of man-made fishponds built during the 1980s. The fishponds, together with surrounding reedbeds, willow thickets, and shallow overflow zones, form a mosaic of low-intensity aquatic and wetland habitats. The surrounding landscape is open and agricultural; there are no large forest tracts in the immediate vicinity, and the dikes between ponds are cloaked in grassland vegetation with a distinctly xerothermic character. The area is especially significant for waterbirds. It serves as one of the more important pre-breeding roost sites for common cranes in this part of Poland, and during autumn migration the ponds attract large mixed flocks of bean geese, white-fronted geese, greylag geese, and a wide range of other waterfowl species.
