Compare protected geography around an eroded stratovolcano remnant

Position Vinařická hora within Central Bohemia's wider volcanic protected geography

Vinařická hora rises from the Prague Plateau, with gentle eastern ground and steep western and northern flanks exposing basaltic lava, tuff, ash layers, quarry faces, and dry slopes above Knovízský potok valley. Nearby records are positioned by separation and direction while retaining designation, country context, mapped location, and geological identity.

Vinařická hora

Vinařická hora is a 413-meter hill in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, located about one kilometer north of the village of Vinařice in the Kladno district. It rises from the broad Prague Plateau surface and is the eroded remnant of a Tertiary stratovolcano whose volcanic core, made of nephelinite and exposed basalt, tuff, and solidified lava, has been worked in a series of quarries since the 19th century. Today its northern, western, and southern slopes are protected as a Czech natural monument (přírodní památka), designated in 1985 to preserve both the exceptional volcanic geology and the dry, warm-loving plant communities that thrive on the diverse volcanic substrate. The site combines geological, ecological, and educational value, with an interpretive nature trail running through the protected area. The hill's position above the surrounding Knovízský potok valley gives it a distinctive asymmetric profile, with gentle eastern slopes merging into the Rovina plain and much steeper western and northern flanks dropping roughly 140 meters into the valley below. This combination of exposure, altitude contrast, and varied rock types supports an unusually diverse mix of habitats for such a small protected area.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
