Wasservogelreservat Northeimer Seenplatte

The Wasservogelreservat Northeimer Seenplatte is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the state of Lower Saxony, Germany, located northwest of the town of Northeim in the floodplain of the River Leine. Covering roughly 80 hectares, the reserve protects a string of lakes formed by historic gravel extraction together with the surrounding grasslands, giving it a distinctive mosaic of open water, shoreline, and meadow habitats. It is entirely part of the EU Bird Directive Special Protection Area known as "Leinetal bei Salzderhelden" and sits adjacent to other protected floodplain and polder reserves managed as part of the Salzderhelden flood retention system. Although modest in size, the reserve is highly regarded for its birdlife. More than 170 bird species have been recorded here, and the lakes serve as a breeding, staging, and wintering site for a wide spectrum of waterbirds ranging from common grebes and geese to rare divers and scoters. Originally designated on 2 March 1984, the area has also been recognized at the European level as a special area of conservation of natural habitats since 1983. It is administered by the Landkreis Northeim with oversight from the Lower Saxony agency for water management, coastal protection, and nature conservation (NLWKN).

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
