Bagholt Mose

Bagholt Mose is a protected peatland, or bog, located within the Munkeskov forest near Haslev in Faxe Municipality on southern Zealand, Denmark. Originally part of a much larger raised bog, much of the original peat mass was cut away for fuel during the First World War and the years that followed, leaving a mosaic of bog fragments and regenerating peat cuttings. Today the site is valued as one of the most important bog localities on the island of Zealand, recognized both through formal nature protection and through its designation as part of the European Natura 2000 network. The site's ecological importance lies in the combination of nutrient-poor raised bog remnants, regenerating bog communities in former peat cuttings, and richer wetland types in the lagg zone around the bog's edge. Where peat cutting exposed chalk-rich subsoil, additional rare habitat types have developed, producing a complex mosaic of extremely rich fen, transitional poor fen, extremely poor fen, and raised bog communities. Bagholt Mose supports a notably rich flora of light-demanding lowland bog species, including a substantial number of rare and biotope-typical plants recorded from surveys in the 1980s. Several orchid species and a hybrid between two of them have been documented at the site, and the bog is also known for its species-rich bryophyte, or moss, flora. Together, these qualities place Bagholt Mose among the small set of high-value peatland localities in the Danish Natura 2000 network.

Review Bagholt Mose earthquake dates, depths, reported places, and park distances

Investigate earthquake observations associated with Bagholt Mose

The Bagholt Mose record set uses earthquake epicentres and distance to define association, not to place every event within the protected site. Dates, magnitudes, depths, location descriptions, distance values, and source links retain the catalogue evidence while avoiding claims about wetland effects, causes, or future seismic conditions.
