Canunda National Park

Canunda National Park is a coastal protected area in the Australian state of South Australia, situated approximately 350 kilometres southeast of Adelaide along the Limestone Coast region. The park encompasses 96.24 square kilometres of coastal dunes, limestone cliffs, and natural bushland, with two main sections extending from the locality of Southend northward to the southern portion near Carpenter Rocks at Cape Banks. Established on 20 August 1959 under IUCN Category VI, the park is managed by the South Australian Department of Environment and Water and preserves both significant natural landscapes and a deep Aboriginal cultural heritage dating back to the Boandik people who occupied the coastline for at least 10,000 years. The dramatic coastline features weathered limestone formations, expansive sand dunes, and remote beaches that remain largely accessible only to four-wheel drive vehicles and bushwalkers, offering a rugged wilderness experience distinct from South Australia's more frequented inland parks.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
