Ireteba Peaks Wilderness

Ireteba Peaks Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in the Mojave Desert of southern Nevada, just south of Las Vegas. It spans roughly the southern reaches of the Eldorado Mountains and extends down to the northern shoreline of Lake Mohave, combining rugged desert ranges with a long stretch of reservoir frontage in a single protected landscape. The area was designated as wilderness in 2002 and is managed jointly by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management, reflecting its position at the intersection of different federal land responsibilities. Its western portion has since been incorporated into Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, designated in 2023, reinforcing the area's growing recognition for its desert scenery, native vegetation, and cultural significance. The wilderness is named for Irataba, a respected Mohave leader, giving the peaks a strong indigenous connection to the river and desert landscape on either side of the river. Today it stands as one of the more remote and scenically varied protected desert landscapes in the Clark County region, valued for its arid terrain, wildlife habitat, and connection to broader Mojave conservation efforts.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
