Lost Creek Wilderness

Lost Creek Wilderness is a U.S. federal wilderness area in central Colorado, situated in the Pike National Forest between Jefferson and Park counties south of the town of Bailey. The protected landscape spans more than 100,000 acres of low alpine foothills belonging to the Kenosha Mountains and the Tarryall Mountains, with Bison Peak rising as the highest summit within its boundaries. The wilderness is best known for its distinctive granitic scenery, including rounded domes, knobs, natural arches, and isolated rock formations set in narrow gorges. Within its borders, the Lost Creek Scenic Area preserves an especially dramatic concentration of these landforms and was recognized as a National Natural Landmark early in the modern American conservation era. Because of its proximity to Denver, Lost Creek functions as one of the most accessible major wilderness areas along the Colorado Front Range, drawing hikers, backpackers, climbers, and winter recreationists to its roughly 130 miles of trails, which include a segment of the longer Colorado Trail.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
