McClellan Creek National Grassland

McClellan Creek National Grassland is a small federally administered grassland in the southern portion of Gray County, in the Texas Panhandle of the United States. Established to reverse severe soil erosion on land that had been heavily altered by early agricultural use, the grassland today forms part of the U.S. Forest Service's system of National Grasslands and is managed jointly with other grasslands in the southern Great Plains region. The site surrounds McClellan Lake, an impoundment on McClellan Creek, and represents one of several modest but ecologically meaningful restoration projects in a region long shaped by Dust Bowl-era land degradation. Its relatively compact size and location on the dry southern plains give it a distinctive character within the broader National Grassland system, combining riparian habitat along the creek and reservoir with restored shortgrass prairie uplands.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
