Naturpark Nordals

Naturpark Nordals is a Danish nature park located on the island of Als in southeastern Denmark. It was formally approved as a nature park in December 2020, bringing together a substantial area of coastal agricultural land, glacial valleys, lakes, and former fjord inlets under a single protected landscape framework. The park's identity is defined by the legacy of the last Ice Age. Around 18,000 years ago, the Young Baltic Glacier had its main stationary line running across northern Als, and its meltwater carved two prominent east-west tunnel valleys that today form the park's long lake corridors. The recovery of lakes such as Mjels Sø and Bundsø, combined with the historic Stegsvig and Nordborg Sø arms, recreates a fjord and lake landscape that was largely lost when the inner fjord sections were cut off from the sea and diked into freshwater basins by the end of the 15th century. Beyond its geological character, Naturpark Nordals is valued for the diversity of habitats packed into a relatively compact coastal setting. Along the lake margins, the shoreline, and in scattered patches inland, protected natural areas coexist with agricultural land, giving the park a transitional feel between working countryside and recovering wetland and lake ecosystems.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
