Ahetal und Langes Siepen Nature Reserve

Ahetal und Langes Siepen is a small nature reserve in the Kreis Olpe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, situated northeast of the village of Rehringhausen. It covers roughly 40 hectares of the Ahe valley and its surrounding headwater catchment, including five tributaries that together form a finger-shaped network of near-natural springs and brooks. The protected landscape combines wooded seepage valleys with open, species-rich grassland, and it extends right up to the edge of Rehringhausen's built-up area. The reserve was designated in 2020 through the landscape plan "Landschaftsplan Nr. 5 Rothaarvorhöhen zwischen Olpe und Altenhundem" by the district council of Kreis Olpe. Its purpose is the long-term preservation of the Ahe spring-brook system, the alder woodlands that line the streams, and the traditional grassland habitats found in the middle and lower reaches of the valley. The Ahe itself and four of its tributaries are individually protected as legally designated biotopes under section 30 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. Ecologically, the reserve stands out for the unusually dense concentration of springs, seepage areas and near-natural headwater brooks in a single small area. These features, together with the associated alder forests and species-rich meadows, make the site a core patch within the broader regional biotope network of the Rothaarvorhöhen.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
