Nino Konis Santana National Park

Nino Konis Santana National Park is Timor-Leste's first national park, established on 15 August 2007. The park occupies 1,236 square kilometres at the eastern tip of Timor-Leste, encompassing both terrestrial and marine environments. It links several Important Bird Areas including Lore, Mount Paitchau, Lake Ira Lalaro, and Jaco Island, creating a continuous protected corridor across diverse habitats. The park includes 556 square kilometres of the Coral Triangle, an underwater region recognized as having the world's greatest diversity of coral and coral reef fish. This protected area was named in honor of Nino Konis Santana, a former commander of Falintil and independence hero born in Tutuala village, which lies within the park's borders.
