Oceanic Shoals Marine Park

Oceanic Shoals Marine Park lies off the northern coast of Australia, in waters north of the Northern Territory and Darwin. It is the largest park in the North Marine Parks Network and one of the larger marine reserves in the Australian system, covering tens of thousands of square kilometers of tropical marine environment. The protected area spans open continental shelf waters, carbonate banks, terraces, and slope systems that together create a rich and varied seabed landscape. It shelters regionally important habitats for migratory turtles, sharks, cetaceans, and reef fishes, while also supporting internationally significant ecological and geological seafloor features. Oceanic Shoals is managed by Parks Australia and is divided into several zones, ranging from fully protected 'no take' areas to zones that allow regulated activity. Together these zones balance conservation of biodiversity with sustainable use in a part of northern Australian waters where productivity, biodiversity, and unique seafloor features converge.
