Polany Puszczy Bolimowskiej

Polany Puszczy Bolimowskiej is a Natura 2000 site of community importance located in central Poland, in the Łódzkie Voivodeship. It forms part of the broader Bolimów Forest (Puszcza Bolimowska) complex and consists of a small set of linked clearings within an otherwise forested landscape. The site has been designated to protect natural habitat types and a small number of highly threatened plant and invertebrate species, most notably the wetland-dependent angelica Angelica palustris and two rare lycaenid butterflies of damp meadow habitats, Maculinea (Phengaris) nausithous and Maculinea (Phengaris) teleius. Its meadow clearings are the defining feature, providing rare open-ground habitat within a forest-dominated region. Although it covers only around 134 hectares across a handful of enclaves, Polany Puszczy Bolimowskiej is valuable because it preserves a delicate combination of wet meadows, tall-herb communities, and extensively managed lowland grasslands that have become scarce across the Polish lowlands.
