Puszcza Napiwodzko-Ramucka

Puszcza Napiwodzko-Ramucka is one of the largest forest complexes in northeastern Poland, sprawling across the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship between the towns of Olsztyn, Olsztynek, Nidzica, Szczytno, and Pasym. Covering roughly 117,000 hectares, the region consists primarily of extensive pine-dominated coniferous forests shaped by glacial activity, creating a landscape of outwash plains, frontal moraines, kettle holes, and post-glacial lakes. The forest belongs to the historic domain of the former primeval wilderness once inhabited by the Baltic Galindian tribe and is drained by rivers such as the Omulew, Łyna, and Orzyc, which separate the Vistula and Pregolya watersheds. Beyond its forests and waters, the area is notable for its exceptional abundance of breeding birds, including several rare raptors, as well as moose, red deer, wild boar, beaver, and recently returning lynx. A significant portion of the area lies under various layers of protection, including a landscape protection zone, multiple nature reserves, ecological sites, and key Natura 2000 designations, both as a bird sanctuary and a community-interest habitat. The planned Landscape Park of Puszcza Napiwodzko-Ramucka reflects growing recognition of the area's ecological importance.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
