Quinn Canyon Wilderness

Quinn Canyon Wilderness is a federally protected wilderness area in the Quinn Canyon Range of central Nevada, within the larger Great Basin landscape of the western United States. It lies in Nye County, far from major population centers, and is administered by the U.S. Forest Service as part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The wilderness is defined by a central ridgeline that rises above 10,000 feet, with deeply incised V-shaped canyons dropping down to lower drainages on either side. Vegetation shifts from pinyon pine and juniper woodland at lower elevations through sagebrush flats to scattered stands of white fir, aspen, mountain mahogany, and notably bristlecone pine higher on the slopes. Because of its distance from roads and towns, Quinn Canyon Wilderness represents one of the more genuinely isolated wild landscapes in the lower 48 states. It functions as important seasonal habitat for mule deer and desert bighorn sheep, and its combination of elevation, solitude, and ecological diversity makes it a distinctive representative of central Nevada's high desert wilderness character.
