Radobýl

Radobýl is a neovolcanic hill rising north of Žalhostice and west of Litoměřice, on the right bank of the Elbe in northern Bohemia. Part of the České středohoří highlands, it reaches around 399 meters above sea level and stands out for its characteristic profile, shaped largely by historical quarrying of its western face. The hill lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area, and its south-facing slopes are separately protected as a nature monument. The protected area is small in extent but ecologically rich, focused on dry grasslands, rocky steppe habitats, scree, and exposed basalt outcrops. It preserves examples of columnar basalt jointing and supports rare plants, butterflies, reptiles, and grassland birds associated with warm, open landscapes. Beyond its natural values, the hill is also a well-known viewpoint and a place of literary memory linked to the poet Karel Hynek Mácha. Radobýl combines geological interest, a distinctive cultural and historical backdrop, and one of the classic panoramic viewpoints over the Litoměřice basin and the Elbe valley.
