Rašeliniště Kapličky

Rašeliniště Kapličky is a nature reserve in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, situated on a forested plateau southwest of Loučovice near the former villages of Kapličky and Krásná Pole, both destroyed during the construction of the Iron Curtain. The reserve lies between roughly 890 and 920 meters above sea level and covers around 73 hectares of upland and transitional peatland, the largest peat bog in this part of the Bohemian Forest foothills. The protected area preserves a mosaic of open bog vegetation, pine-dominated peat woodland, waterlogged spruce stands, and a small dystrophic pond. Its substrate is granite, and in the eastern two-thirds of the reserve peat layers reach several metres in thickness. The site forms part of the Vyšebrodsko Nature Park and has been proposed as a Natura 2000 site of European importance, reflecting both its botanical rarity and the continuity of its peat-forming processes.
