Réserve naturelle régionale des collines sèches du Bischenberg, de l'Immerschenberg et du Holiesel

The Réserve naturelle régionale des collines sèches du Bischenberg, de l'Immerschenberg et du Holiesel is a small regional nature reserve in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, lying in the Bas-Rhin department near the town of Obernai. Covering 97.2 hectares across three separate parcels on the communes of Bischoffsheim, Obernai, and Rosenwiller, it protects a transitional landscape set between the foothills of the Vosges massif and the Alsace plain. Its core environmental value lies in two complementary habitats: dry limestone hills crowned with species-rich calcareous grassland, and a rare stand of pubescent oak forest on the Bischenberg hill. The woodland is a relict of vegetation that colonized the area after the last glaciation and represents one of the last surviving wooded hill complexes of its kind in the region. Classified in 2024, the reserve represents a relatively recent but carefully targeted addition to the French network of regional nature reserves, and is managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels Alsace. It illustrates how very localized landforms in Alsace can harbour habitats of disproportionate regional and biogeographical importance.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
