Schwarzhölzl

Schwarzhölzl is a protected lowland peat forest (Niedermoorwald) in the Feldmoching district of Munich, covering roughly 79.5 hectares within the city and extending into the neighboring municipalities of Karlsfeld and Oberschleißheim. It is one of the last surviving fragments of the historically vast Dachauer Moos, a once-extensive peatland north of Munich whose name lives on in the surrounding landscape. The forest takes its name from the dark appearance of its bog pines (Mooskiefern), which together with moist meadows, peat birch woodland, and small water features define its character. As part of Munich's green belt, Schwarzhölzl plays a dual role as a refuge for specialized wetland flora and fauna and as a popular local recreation area near the city limits.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
