Solsbæk

Solsbæk is a compact protected natural area on the eastern coast of Vendsyssel in northern Jutland, Denmark, situated just south of the town of Sæby within Frederikshavn Municipality. Covering roughly 33 hectares near the mouth of a small stream also called Solsbæk, it is designated as a Danish Natura 2000 site, habitat area number 11, and is recognized primarily for its rare coastal dune habitats. The landscape is shaped by calcium-rich sands derived from crushed shells of mussels and snails, a distinctive geological foundation that supports a sequence of dune communities rarely found together in such a small area. White dunes, grey and green dunes, juniper dune scrub, dune heath, and grey-crowberry dune habitats all occur here, alongside a small watercourse and herbaceous fringe vegetation. Although modest in size, Solsbæk is ecologically significant because of its concentration of priority dune habitat types and because the area has been managed for nature protection since 1972 as a state-owned conservation site. It illustrates how small Danish coastal parcels can preserve dune biodiversity that is otherwise under pressure along the North Sea and Kattegat shorelines.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
