About Staunings Ø

Staunings Ø is one of two large elongated sand formations that lie off the coast at Jersie Strand in Køge Bugt, on southern Zealand. Although often called a barrier island, it is more accurately a sand bar or offshore ridge that runs parallel to the mainland, separated from it by a shallow lagoon. The formation is roughly two kilometres long and consists of low dunes and sandy flats facing the open bay, with a more sheltered back slope on the lagoon side.
