Tenorio Volcano National Park

Tenorio Volcano National Park is a protected area in the northern Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, spanning approximately 129 square kilometers of volcanic and forest terrain. The park centers on Tenorio Volcano, a prominent stratovolcano that was incorporated into the national park in 1995, significantly expanding the original protected area established in 1976. The park forms part of the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area and is managed by SINAC, Costa Rica's National System of Conservation Areas. Visitors are drawn to the park's dramatic landscape of volcanic peaks, thermal springs, waterfalls, and the world-famous Rio Celeste, whose striking turquoise-blue color results from sulphur emissions and calcium carbonate precipitation from the volcano's geothermal activity. The park supports diverse ecosystems ranging from primary cloud forest in its upper elevations to tropical rain forest in lower regions, creating a rich environment for both wildlife and visitor exploration.
