Tinggi Island

Tinggi Island is an oval-shaped resort island in the Mersing District of Johor, Malaysia, lying roughly 20 nautical miles southeast of Mersing Town in the South China Sea. The island rises sharply from the sea to a peak of about 600 metres called Mount Semundu, and much of its interior remains cloaked in secondary lowland dipterocarp rainforest. Long stretches of white sandy beach, scattered coastal caves, sheltered bays, and surrounding coral reefs define its shoreline character. With an estimated residential population of around 448 people living in three small village settlements, Tinggi is both a living maritime community and a nature-based destination. Chinese sailors historically knew the island by a nickname referring to the silhouette of its central peak, a name that still reflects its most distinctive visual identity. Today it sits among a group of east-coast Johor islands clustered near Pulau Besar, Pulau Rawa, and Pulau Sibu, and is reached by ferry from Mersing.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
