Wasatch-Cache National Forest

Wasatch-Cache National Forest is a large United States national forest that lies primarily across northern Utah, with additional lands in southeastern Idaho and a small portion in southwestern Wyoming. The forest is named after the Wasatch Range, whose name comes from a Ute word meaning a low place in high mountains, and after the French word cache, a reference to the fur trappers who were the first Europeans to explore and work in the region. The forest's lands cover a wide range of mountain, canyon, and high-country environments, making it one of the most ecologically and recreationally significant national forests in the Intermountain West. The forest was established in 1906 and historically operated with headquarters in Salt Lake City. Since 2007, it has been jointly administered with the Uinta National Forest under the combined name Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Wasatch-Cache itself contains numerous wilderness areas, multiple ranger districts, and an extensive network of high-elevation landscapes that support hiking, skiing, wildlife habitat, and watershed protection. The forest plays an important role in protecting watersheds that supply water to surrounding communities, conserving backcountry habitat, and providing outdoor recreation opportunities close to the population centers of the Wasatch Front.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
