Poland's first marine national park protecting dramatic Baltic cliffs, ancient forests, and wetland ecosystems on the island of Wolin

Wolin National Park

Wolin National Park is one of Poland's 23 national parks, situated on the island of Wolin in the far northwest of the country within the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Established on March 3, 1960, the park covers an area of 109.37 square kilometers and represents a remarkable combination of coastal, forest, and wetland ecosystems. What makes Wolin unique is its dual personality as both a terrestrial and marine protected area—it became Poland's first marine park in 1996 when territorial waters of the Baltic Sea and the Szczecin Lagoon were incorporated into its boundaries. The park's landscape is dominated by terminal moraine hills reaching 115.9 meters at Mount Grzywacz, dramatic sea cliffs along the Gosań and Kawcza Góra headlands that rise to 95 meters, and a complex delta system of the Świna strait with its numerous marshy islands. The park serves as a critical corridor along the East Atlantic Flyway, supporting over 230 bird species through its diverse habitats ranging from coastal dunes to beech-pine forests.
