Yourka Reserve

Yourka Reserve is a large private nature reserve in Far North Queensland, situated on the western edge of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Site. It occupies the Einasleigh Uplands bioregion, with terrain ranging from roughly 500 to 900 metres above sea level. The property was purchased by Bush Heritage Australia in 2007 and is actively managed for conservation, including regular cool burning to support native grass species. The reserve protects a gradient of vegetation types, with wet eucalypt forest in the higher, wetter eastern areas giving way to drier eucalypt woodland toward the west. The upper Herbert River and numerous creeks flow through the property, adding to its habitat diversity. Management focuses on restoring native grass cover, controlling feral animals, and safeguarding a number of threatened mammal and bird species. Yourka is significant as a conservation property bridging the Wet Tropics rainforest zone with the drier savanna woodlands of the Queensland uplands. Its role in landscape-scale habitat protection, its recovery story following the severe 2019-20 bushfires, and its importance for threatened upland fauna make it a meaningful component of Australia's private conservation network.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
