Argo-Rowley Terrace Marine Park

The Argo-Rowley Terrace Marine Park is a large offshore Australian marine park located in the Indian Ocean, north-west of Broome in Western Australia. It lies across a broad transition zone between the deep Argo Abyssal Plain, the Scott Plateau, and the shallower reef systems of the Rowley Shoals and Mermaid Reef. The park encompasses the Commonwealth waters around the Rowley Shoals and stretches far into deeper offshore territory, covering an enormous area of open ocean. It protects a wide depth range from relatively shallow reef environments down to seafloor features more than five kilometres below the surface, including submarine canyons, terraces, and continental slopes. It is the largest of the parks within Australia's North-west Marine Parks Network and is recognized for its role in protecting migratory seabirds, endangered marine turtles, sharks, and unique deep-sea seafloor communities. Through its zoning system, the park balances strict conservation in core reef areas with multiple-use zones that allow regulated activities further offshore.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
